HOWARD PIERCE put Joshua Tree, California, on the map
with his now-highly sought-after ceramic and metal art work.
He loved the natural desert; and that love is reflected in his work.
His affection for Joshua Tree was great, and many of his
public sculptures are visible throughout the town, and from the roadway.
Here are some of the pieces we found in a just a few hours!

Matt spotted this on the opposite side of the road!
We turned around and took this picture
outside the Cultural Center.

The Hi-Desert Museum, in adjoining Yucca Valley,
has a small display of Howard Pierce's ceramic works --
plus this giant owl sculpture out front.

We found this whimsical sculpture
outside the Hi-Desert Medical Center.
This is one of FOUR public sculptures
Pierce did for the medical center's grounds.

Being the intrepid souls that we are,
we even drove up to the Pierce Home.
Pierce has been dead for many years,
and his family no longer occupies the home;
but the new owner graciously allowed us to walk
the grounds and take many pictures --
including this famous sculpture atop
a hill overlooking the Pierce estate.
