The Hotel Gadsden in Douglas. This huge hotel burned down in the '20s, then was rebuilt. Many of the original fixtures and details are still around in the lobby.

Such as: the neon coffee fountain sign with wall embellishments. There's also a beauty parlor on the opposite side. Nice copper lighting fixtures, too.

A drinking fountain with tile mosaic. Swanky.

The dramatic lobby staircase leads to a balcony with stained glass windows depicting a desert panorama.

Window display at a Douglas trophy store.

Officer Lopez says "Stop!": faded photo of a chubby guy stands in the school crosswalk.

An ad for boots next to a "God Bless America" mural. Agua Prieta was filthy and the locals' stares made me uncomfortable. After a couple of hours there, we were both happy to leave.

Although this photo isn't much, it was taken in the coolest part of our trip - the Whitewater Dam Wildlife refuge. We saw a few wintering birds at this peaceful retreat, including an egret of some kind. Back to scrubbles.net.
