I Feel Like Chicken Tonight

According to the AP, the old fashioned jingle has fallen out of favor in the advertising biz. Instead, agencies choose the cheaper and more familiar route of using existing pop songs in commercials (sigh). Although I’m no longer in that coveted 18-34 demo, everytime I hear some overexposed rock chestnut trotted out in a commercial, I roll my eyes and make a mental note to avoid their product. It makes me wistful for the pre-ironic, ultra sincere age in advertising, when people could get away with re-purposing Neil Sedaka’s “Calendar Girl” to sell cat-themed calendards for Purina Cat Chow (“January/Chow chow chow chow chow”). Have you ever noticed that Wrigley’s Big Red gum has had the same jingle since the ’70s? They must be doing something right.

This is one of my hubby and my biggest pet peeves ever (worst offender-Applebee's- I am looking angrily at you).

I celebrate and am grateful to all companies/product manufacturers who still take the time and effort to come up with a jingle, hire people to sing it and go for the originality!!

did anyone see the commercials from when that candy bar take 5 came out? it had a nice little jingle

also, dont forget about that "lets go have a coke" song from the scrubbles 04 mix

I don't know about the rest of the world, but here in Chicago, the jingle is alive and well on local radio commercials, especially those played on the AM all-news station. A lot of them sound as if they were written and performed by the same guy...though I sometimes wonder if they're original, or re-recordings of old songs c. 1954, viz:

"Get the best clothes for less
All the ladies will be impressed
'Cause Manny's makes the man
Like no other men's store can
They're right of Roosevelt Road
In Villa Park!
Yeah!"

I sing that one in the shower.

okok big huge question of huge importance! If you can remember the lyrics to the max5 jingle could you email them to me?
