Albert Frey's nifty 1952
Palm Springs City Hall
complex is worth the drive two miles East of downtown. Frey used metal piping cut at angles as a design motif here - pretty, but also functional, since they help shield the main building from the harsh morning sun. (Afternoon sun is no problem; a mountain range always keeps Palm Springs shaded that time of day.) Frey embellished this structure with lots of intruiging touches, like the council chamber sign pictured here.
