Revenge of Cartoon Alley

I've been closely keeping track of the Turner Classic Movies showcase for vintage cartoons, Cartoon Alley, ever since it started early this year. It could be relied upon for the more obscure vintage MGM and Warner Bros. cartoons, often with the "offensive" bits left in (stuff that The Cartoon Network censors out). TCM schedules these half-hours infrequently and at odd times, with the shows themselves often suffering from bad quality prints and the overwhelming smugness of host Ben Mankiewicz - but I still like them! After taking a break in August, the series returns this month with not one but four new installments. The first three focus on a rarely-seen English cartoon series called Animaland, directed former Disney man David Hand in the '40s. The fourth program is a showcase for Barney Bear, an MGM creation who never caught on despite going through several years and incarnations.

The next new Cartoon Alley (with three of those Animaland shorts) debuts this Saturday, September 3, at 11:30 a.m. EST.

Wow, Matt — thanks for pointing this out. I didn't even know TCM had this feature. I'm not as big a cartoon buff as you, but I'd love to see some of these. And what is Labor Day weekend for if not a little TCM browsing?

Yeah, check it out JD! Traditionally, the new Cartoon Alleys debut on the first Saturday morning of each month.
