Saturday Morning Confusion

pf2200ad.jpg I've got to admire Columbia TriStar Home Video. On their Partridge Family Complete First Season DVD set, they have the balls to include two episodes of the sorry animated spinoff The Partridge Family 2200 A.D as extras. Sicko that I am, I was actually excited to finally see this. The show comes across like a lame Jetsons update with the Partridges tacked on seemingly at the last minute. One can imagine this came about via some cigar-chomping ABC suit barking out "I want a Partridge Family cartoon NOW!" to a hapless Hanna-Barbera. Much of the live action cast provide voices, although David Cassidy and Shirley Jones wisely opted out.

Awful as 2200 A.D. is, I'd so love for other cartoon spinoffs to appear on future TV season sets. The Brady Kids? Laverne & Shirley in the Army? Bring 'em on! Partridge fansite C'mon Get Happy contains everything you'd ever want to know on The Partridge Family 2200 A.D. They also host a 'Mad Magazine' parody - ladies and gentlemen, The Putrid Family.

Damn, I may have to Netflix this now just for this reason.

Ah, the Brady Kids! That cartoon holds a singularly weird place in my kid memory. Ping-Pong, the panda? What were they on?
