Found Photo Bonanza
Photos of a Family Who Probably Owned a Liquor Store (via
Coudal). The lady in these pics looks a lot like Ruth Gordon in
Harold and Maude.

Scrumpdillyicious, Matt!
They seem happy, prosperous, short-waisted.
I hope they lived long and happily.
Plastic on the sofa? Clown pictures on the walls? Make it stop!!!!
This is probably the coolest found photo archive I have ever seen. I'd forgotten about those hanging lamps with the link chains that run over the shade and down the wall. Wow. I have a new desktop wallpaper source now! Thanks, Matt!
Shannon, I hope you're referring to the photo with one of those lamps in one corner and some people sitting down in the other corner. It's like the photographer wanted to fit both parts in, resulting in a weirdly composed shot consisting of mostly a blank white wall. I love that one!
That would be the one! The other two that are my favorites (at least for today) is the one of the family in Europe, standing in front of the Stella Artois building--the man's suit and hat ensemble are killing. The other is one the last page, the woman standing in front of the giant television set and behind her hair is what appears to be a painting of some weird skeletal hobo/clown figure. All you can see is the head. It's creeping me out for some reason!
she does look like ruth gordon! what a great collection of photos.
Thanks for linking to our site from yours. We think the
liquor store family photos are very special and we're glad
a few more folks (around the globe) have had a chance to see them in all their Kodak Instamatic glory.
Someone wrote in (to HPS) recently and informed us that the liquor store in question is/was located at El Centro and Santa Monica Blvd in Hollywood, CA
In one of the snapshots, Omega Cinema Props can be seen in the background...and that was the big tip-off. I'm planning on driving up to the intersection myself (one of these days) and investigating. It would be fun to give the photo albums back to the family (or to a relative) if they could ever be tracked-down.
By the way, there's about another album's worth of photos of the liquor store family that have yet to be added to the site - maybe they'll go up next year - Kurt B. (owner and operator - Houseplant Picture Studio --- Lynwood/Long Beach/London) - PS - don't miss the FOUND Magazine tour this coming Fall
This is great stuff! It's almost like to can jump into the pictures and get yourself a pint of Popov for $1.44, and let me have one of those plastic combs while yer at it!
Here's some things I noticed:
Eastern European Relatives
Trips to Lake Tahoe
Fondness for Gin Rummy
No good beatnik son becomes no good hippie son
Price increases from 1967 to 1968 on the booze
Lots of swag lamps
A shot from the Simon Wiesenthal Center in LA
Was the world really less insane back then? Part of me would like to crawl into these photos and drive off in a Chevy Impala...
HPS keeps the fire burning with TWO (2) new pages! of PHOTOS from the albums of the family who probably owned a liquor store.
