Paperback Reader

chooseyourown.jpg Something Awful presents Choose Your Own Adventure Books That Never Quite Made It. Hilarious. I had a few of the earliest CYOA books, and enjoyed them immensely for the most part -- except whenever you died. That's just not acceptable, the young me thought, I'm only 10 years old and that's too young to die. Stupid paperback. So I'd page back a few steps and pick a less disquieting end.

I also had a lot of the early CYOA's back when I was in junior high. Weren't the covers great? Giant, disembodied heads floating along with robots, monsters and other pulp staples. I wish I could buy a poster of "Vampire Express".
