A Nest of One's Own

I'm probably the last person on earth who's heard about this -- but Nest Magazine, the quirky interiors quarterly, is ceasing publication with its Fall 2004 issue. Sad news. During the final months of my job at the newspaper, my department was given an exercise. We were each to bring in three current magazines: one we never heard of, one we'd never, ever buy, and one we admired. I brought in a copy of the Summer 2003 Nest as an example of the latter. Not only was Nest beautiful to look at (each issue was like a unique little piece of art), it inverted the message of typical interior design magazines. Unlike the usual consumer-based, ad driven rags, here was a publication that got to the heart of how people express themselves through their surroundings. RIP Nest. What Do I Know's Todd Dominey has a nice appreciation here.
