Roger Starbucks
Thinking Outside the Cup, the cover story from Fast Company's latest issue, is about Starbucks' latest business venture - hybrid music/coffee shops. They have a shop in Santa Barbara, Calif. where you can create customized CDs while waiting for the lattes to arrive. This could be a great idea; I hope it catches on. Starbucks has the vision to acknowledge a large untapped audience - people who want to hear interesting new music, but feel intimidated by record stores and stymied by homogonized radio playlists - and they know a large part of this audience overlaps with their existing customer base.
