Food of the Gods

Next time in L.A. I will have to drop by
Clifton's Cafeteria, a local eatery in business since the '30s (spotted at
Fwak! Blog). Although I have a feeling they're not the same now as in their heyday, when the building had a giant waterfall cascading down the front. Just look at the
vintage postcards, all that gloriously tacky tropical foliage. Very King Kong. Christopher's mom, who resided in Los Angeles in the '50s, used to eat there all the time. That makes me SO jealous.

Oddly, whenever I hear of Clifton's Cafeteria, I remember having read on cruisingforsex.com (a story for another time as to why I was reading THAT website! LOL) that the Lakewood, California Clifton's has a very "busy" bathroom. Never had plans to visit for THAT reason, but Clifton's still became a running joke with Dennis and me.
Aren't you glad I shared? LOL
** OOPS... Matt, I hit "post" too early and hadn't entered my name. Sorry to make work for you to clear off the previous duplicate post. **

I went to Clifton's years ago and reluctantly agreed to meet some friends there recently. As it turns out it was more impressive (it really is amazing!) than I remembered and the food was not dreadful.
Clifton's is swell. There's a semi-private logger-themed room on the second floor where the original LA science fiction club used to meet back in the 30s, a bordello-red top floor that's nearly always empty, adorable altercockers enjoying the gummer fare and a weird tiny "chapel" cubbyhole bige enough for 1.5 people with a bizarre audio strip that just might be the dullest piece of sound-art ever. And pudding!
I went there my sole visit to LA (about 3 years ago). The waterfall--yes--is gone, but the interior is amazing. All I can recall of the food is that is was edible, but that's not why I went there....
