Electronic Essentials

Slant magazine recently compiled its 25 Greatest Electronic Albums of the 20th Century. Pretty self explanatory, but I was glad to see the 1984 platter (Who's Afraid of?) The Art of Noise! recognized as the overlooked landmark it is.

ah, finally i get to see what the hubbub is about. but why is there nothing from before 1970 on that list? calling that list the best of the 20th century seems to be a bit of a stretch.

I was thinking the same thing, William. If you're talking about influential early electronic musicians, Perry & Kingsley oughta be on there.

At least "Switched on Bach" (1968) was mentioned in the Other titles/artists section.

exactly. my suspicion is that the people that submitted their lists, are very young and probably ignorant of anything that happened prior to kraftwerk for the most part. i can't say i'm surprised, but still disappointing.

Ummm.... Where's Bruce Haack? Also... OMD's
debut should have been included for the album cover alone.
