The Doyenne of Doo Wah Diddy
I was saddened to hear of the death of songwriter Ellie Greenwich this week at age 68. Her songs were so upbeat, capturing the youthful optimism of the ’60s like few others did. This is evident in her tune “Another Boy Like Mine,” heard in the clip below.
Although Greenwich will be best remembered for Girl Group classics like “Leader of the Pack” and “Da Doo Ron Ron,” the obsessive collector in me loves her more obscure stuff such as Lesley Gore’s swell 1965 LP cut, “What’s A Girl Supposed To Do?” or her own dramatic single of the same year, “You Don’t Know.” She will be missed.
Forgive me, Matt; I know your thoughtful post is about Ms. Greenwich’s recent passing, but ——Dang!!!!!!

I love those same Ellie songs! She was amazing.
Ellie will definitely be missed, but we have all of her great songs to keep us happy in her absence! I love her ‘cover’ of “Another Boy Like Mine” that I mainly know as being done by The Dixie Cups. She recorded a wonderful album circa 1972-73 that was all of her big hits (written for others) rearranged and sounding fresh for the time period. She should be saluted for what she gave to popular music in the 1960s!
