Fresh as a Daisy

Let’s take a moment to enjoy Meredith MacRae, Linda Kaye Henning and Lori Saunders of Petticoat Junction performing a Sunshine Pop gem, “If You Could Only Be Me.” This buttery tune served as the b-side for the Girls’ only single, in 1968.

I remember that episode from when I was a fifth or sixth-grader and “Petticoat Junction” reruns were on our local UHF station in the after noon (circa 1973). It amazed me that Betty Jo had to hide her pregnant midsection, like it was something to be ashamed of, and also that suddenly Hooterville’s Alf Monroe was suddenly a music industry mogul.

Hey! I know that song! Never seen an episode of this show in my lifetime, so it was good to match the music with the pretty faces.Love the strange choreography with the guitars near the end. Do they think they’re Sonic Youth or something? ;)

They thought they were Shonen Knife, Ion. I don’t know what song they’re miming to. I was hoping it’s “I’m So Glad That I Found You.” Somebody needs to upload that pronto.
