Neat Old View-Masters on Flickr
In the past few days, I’ve finally figured out how to photograph frames from old ViewMaster reels. Yay. A bunch of photos and scans from my own collection can now be seen in this flickr set. The best reels by far are the meticulously constructed 3D versions of cartoons, like the Winnie the Pooh scene below. Keep checking the set, since I’m far from done adding to it!

Very cool, Matt! I’d be curious to learn how you did this, as we have lots of Viewmaster reels that I’d like to photograph — especially Yvette’s Barbie ones (and Welcome Back Kotter too!). Will try to get an e-mail out to you in the next few days. I’m long overdue ;)

This stuff is absolutely enchanting–what amazing attention to detail for something that probably didn’t need to be so detailed.
I’d love to see more of the Apollo 11 stuff.

JB – thanks! I will get some more of the Apollo 11 set on there.
Ion — these were photographed with the lens focused inside the viewer, pointed at a sunny spot in the window. I used the camera’s macro lens to really get in there.

These are simply beautiful, and bring back so many fond memories … this is a treat! I’ve plugged the flickr set on my own blog! Thanks, Matt!
