My late husband and I were first introduced to Charles Harper's work while living in Cincinnati. We acquired a number of his pieces but the most cherished was Ladybug. I would be interested in hearing from other collectors.

Delighted to see Charley Harper and his unique "minimal realism" style getting well-deserved recognition beyond Cincinnati.
Although he just passed away June 10, 2007, Edie & Brett, his wife & son, are artists in a somewhat similar minimalist style.
Another book with a TON of Harper art in one easy stop is "Beguiled by the Wild: The Art of Charley Harper" (Flower Valley Press, 1994). Features well over 100 prints, and the punny titles and clever commentaries for each give a taste for Charley's verbal as well as visual playfulness.

I'm really saddened by the passing of Charley Harper.
my first contact with his work was with the "Dinner For Two" cookbook. I was just wowed by the illustrations, and for a long time I showed it to everyone who came into my home. It wasn't just that great loose mid-century style, but the sense of humor that makes it such a treasure.
When I later came across his other commercial works and prints I loved them as much. Whatever the activity of the creatures depicted there's a sort of serenity to them I love. At a loss for words I can only describe them as "poetic" (horrible word that it is...).
Thank you Charley Harper......
I'm going to hunt down some of your Golden books now!
